66 years

Do you know where your father, or grandfather, was 66 years ago today?

My dad was in Lake Charles, LA, because he had been declared medically unfit to fly. Which means that he survived the War. I realized during high school history class that had he not lost his hearing, he probably would have been flying missions over Europe, and would have been unlikely to have lived. And four of the kids in my family wouldn't have ever been.

So, thanks for the genetics that caused his ears to be weak, and thanks for the idiot pilot who blew out Dad's eardrums on a training mission in '42.

And thanks, Dad, for building and maintaining the bomb sights for the planes so that we could win the War.
