Movies

I ran across an article in Entertainment Weekly last week entitled 8 Great Movies Too Upsetting to See Twice. The list is made up of these movies.
1. Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
2. Straw Dogs (1971)
3. Come and See (1985)
4. Irreversible (2003)
5. United 93 (2006)
6. Dancer in the Dark (2000)
7. The Sorrow and the Pity (1969)
8. Requiem For a Dream (2000)
So, here's the thing. I've heard of about half of these. I've no interest in seeing the ones I'd never heard of, and frankly the others are a little beyond my capacity for a two-hour Hollywood-sad-fest.

The problem I have with this list, and others like it, is that they miss the gargantuan ones. I mean, how do you leave out Sophie's Choice? Schindler's List? The Piano? SHOAH!?!?!?! Those, those, I'd watch over and over, and be depressed over and over, because they are true at a level that goes beyond Holloywood-sad. [Disclaimer: Shoah is actually a documentary, so it isn't fair that I'm including it, but I've been thinking about re-watching it this winter so it's been right at the front of my brain, and it's my blog, so it's here.]

On the other hand, I was gifted a copy of RHPS recently and Sparky spied it when he was home a few weeks ago. He told us last week that he watched and found it "weird." "Really weird." I need to watch that again too. Sort of, maybe, at the same time I'm watching Shoah.

Pride

One of the periods in my life of which I am most proud. Keep in mind that these performers are all 15-18 years old.
Even though the sound and video quality aren't up to 2012 standards, watching this makes me tear up every freakin' time I watch it. We rocked; we knew it, but we really had no idea how rare it is to be part of something this amazing.

Neighbors

While we were outside helping one neighbor load our leftover mulch from our driveway into the mower trailer to take to her yard tonight--in cool 95-degree temps and 43% humidity (ugh ugh ugh--today was day three over 100 degrees outside), some of our other neighbors brought out their 6-week-old boxer pups.

This is NOT an actual picture of them; I found it on the internet.
But it is startlingly close to what they look like. There were actually 10 in their litter, but two have died. They have one pure white one, and one of the toffee-colored ones. The rest are all brindles or reverse-brindles (never heard that term before tonight!).

And...ok, just look at their faces. Soooo fracking adorable. Of course I went over swearing I wasn't going to touch them...and ended up petting the mom, the other adult dog (not the dad), and picking up and holding and playing with at least 4 of the puppies.

Dumbass. Totally stupid moron. I came home and washed my hands and arms immediately, then went upstairs and changed shirts, washing my arms and hands even more thoroughly.

I hate being allergic to puppies!

Not Safe for ... well, anywhere public where it could be misinterpreted....

I promise I will post something for realz today, but I just ran across this and nearly cried and threw up at the same time I was laughing my ass off:

Leave it to the Brits.

Heh

This made me giggle--and I don't even know who Landon Donovan is.

If only life really worked this way....
